JackpotCity - The casino with the strongest reputation
Pros
? Winner of Casino.org's 'Best Casino of the Year' 2019
? Solve your queries 24/7 with live chat support
? 20+ live casino game varieties, more than most casinos
Cons
? A smaller games lobby for players in Ontario, with nearly 100 fewer games
Read our full JackpotCity review.
JackpotCity is an established online casino that's been trusted by players since 1998. It's honed a quality player experience that includes a high payout rate (98.46% over a 96% average) and the biggest range of live casino options I've seen in Ontario. Live baccarat, sic bo, and Andar Bahar sit alongside the usual blackjack and roulette titles.
?? User review: "I’ve had some really great wins on JackpotCity and had no issues getting paid out. My biggest withdrawal was $8,000 back in June and had my funds within two days." Tight_Celebration146, Reddit user, October 13, 2022
?? Editor's insight: While some players have complained about JackpotCity's payout speeds, I found the three to seven day time about average. It seems that these players hadn't cleared wagering requirements or hadn't verified their accounts. Wagering requirements at JackpotCity Ontario are rather steep, however, at 70x. I'd like to see these lowered below 30x for the casino to receive five out of five stars.
Casino.org rating: 4.3/5 ?
PlayOJO - Best casino loyalty program
Pros
? Play an above average lobby of 3,000+ CFG approved games
? Exclusive higher game RTPs across the site as a PlayOJO VIP
? Excellent mobile app, rated 4/5 and 4.5/5 on Android and iOS
Cons
? You can't telephone for player support
PlayOJO's VIP program, the OJO A-Listers, is popular with players for boosting payouts on all games. This is done through money back, which is paid on any bets eligible players make. This is one of the best rewards I've seen offered in Ontario. Add to this the extensive 3,000 games lobby, and PlayOJO Ontario just needs to add some progressive jackpot games to perfect its offering.

?? User review: "PlayOJO is one of the best online casinos in my opinion for blackjack, roulette, and slots. There's also no wagering or minimum withdrawals which I really appreciate and I wish more casinos offered this." Fabulous_Use7916, Reddit user, June 11, 2024
?? Editor's insight: Some user reviews have noted the verification process can take a while at PlayOJO casino. I did get stuck, but soon fixed this by talking to customer service. They were quick to respond and helpful. I recommend verifying your identity as soon as you sign up, instead of waiting until you want to withdraw.
Casino.org rating: 4.3/5 ?
PowerPlay Casino - Best range of games
Pros
? Games from the industry's best providers, like Microgaming, Pragmatic Play, and Evolution
? Some of the fastest withdrawal processing in the industry, within 2 hours
? More support options than most casinos, including phone and live chat
Cons
? There's no Android PowerPlay app
PowerPlay Ontario packs the best range of games for diversity over its 700+ titles. There's over 580 slots, 60+ table games, and 30 live casino titles. By comparison, some Ontario gambling sites have under 30 table games and even fewer live games. With 50+ new titles recently added, it's a casino that really innovates in gaming. I'd just like to see easier menus and search added to futureproof the growing lobby.

?? User review: "Grade A customer service. I deposit and withdraw using Interac online wherever possible. PowerPlay has my winnings into my account in less than 2 hours almost every time." WaroftheGods, TrustPilot review, April 5, 2024
?? Editor's insight: PowerPlay casino gets a low rating on the App Store, but I found the app worked well and included most games. Unfortunately, a smaller number of reviews can skew the rating figure. The app is free to download, so I recommend trying it yourself instead.

Casino.org editor's insight
"If you're feeling overwhelmed by the choice of casinos in Ontario, I'd suggest focusing on one or two key features you need. I look for casinos that offer a good range of volatile slots, as that's more exciting for me than a large live games lobby. As long as I can also make easy withdrawals to Interac, the casino is a winner."

How our experts evaluate online casinos
With 25 years of casino reviews behind us, Casino.org has honed the most comprehensive review process in the industry. Our expert team completes a robust 25-step review process to determine the very top casinos online. These steps cover everything from gameplay to support and security. Here's a snapshot of what makes the best Ontario online casinos stand out:
Security and fairness
Before we recommend a casino, we first test out its safety measures. No casino will make it to this page without holding an AGCO licence. It must also be regulated by iGaming Ontario. As part of their AGCO licence, Ontario gambling sites must also segregate your player bankroll from their operating funds.
Beyond that, a casino like Slots Magic scores highly because it's also licensed by the Malta Gaming Authority, uses 28 Bit data encryption, and independent auditor eCOGRA verifies its games for fairness. It could get a higher score still by adding two-factor authentication.
Games and software
We only recommend sites with over 400+ games. These will include a substantial range of slot games, progressive jackpots, table games like blackjack and roulette, and live dealer options. Ontario gambling law requires casinos to have an overall payout rate of 85%. We like to see that average around 96% or more, though.
The very best Ontario casinos will have well over 1,000 games, like PlayOJO's 3,000+ strong lobby, all coming from top software providers. We like to see a minimum of 10 software developers on offer and look for reputable industry names like Microgaming, NetEnt, Relax Gaming, and more. Slots Magic scores highest here with 70+ software types on its platform.
Mobile play and apps
The best online casinos must deliver an outstanding mobile experience, whether in-browser or on app. While several Ontario casinos online don't offer apps, examples like JackpotCity, which gets 4.5/5 ratings in the Play and App stores, are our quality benchmark.
As standard, every casino that we recommend will be available to play on mobile and optimized for iOS and Android device browsers. We guarantee that you'll also be able to find at least 90% of the desktop games available on mobile.
Top marks will go to the mobile casinos with dedicated Ontario casino apps for players. This should be easy to use with a well-designed interface and search functionality. Plus, we always look out for app-specific features like exclusive games and more.
Banking options
At any top-rated Ontario online casino, real money players should expect a vast choice of local Canadian payment methods. Ontario's most used casino banking options are Interac, credit card, MuchBetter, and Paysafecard. Spin Casino scores highly here for offering all three amongst nine options in total. Many casinos provide around 6-8 options.
Payout speeds must be fast, too, though these can vary depending on the payment method you choose. Spin Genie scores highest for processing payments within 24 hours. That said. a site like PlayOJO still reviews well with a 1-3 day payment window.

Best payout online casinos in Ontario
There are two ways you can consider a site a ‘best payout casino.’ The payout rate is the average percentage the casino pays out in winnings across all bets over time. This is the casino’s RTP or win rate. To ensure fair play, Ontario gambling law requires all casinos to have a payout rate of 85% or more. The best casinos will be much higher than this, though.
You may also be looking for the best payout speed when you choose an Ontario online casino for real money games. This means winning funds are transferred to you as quickly as possible. Below, you can compare the win rates and payout speeds to see which online casinos offer the best.

How legal online gambling in Ontario works
Ontario is the only Canadian province with a regulated gambling market. iGaming in Ontario launched on April 4th 2022. Today the province has over 77 regulated online casinos and sports betting sites. The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) report that 86% of bettors in Ontario now play on regulated sites.
Previously, the only casinos available to players were unregulated offshore sites. These weren't validated for fair play, security, or payout reliability. With the passage of government Bill C-218 in August 2021, provinces could license single-game sports wagering and online casino gambling.
What's changed since the launch?
Regulation means various benefits to you as a player. Ontario sets a minimum payout rate that casinos must meet to ensure fair returns on wagers. AGCO's Registrar Standards for Internet Gaming benchmark game randomness, ensure legal conduct of casinos, and enforce standards for responsible gambling tools. Overall, this has meant fairer, safer, and more secure online gambling in Ontario and a higher quality of casinos online.
Since the 2022 launch, Ontario's gambling scene has been rapidly developing. As Canada's most populous province, and 40% of the population, there is a burgeoning market here. In fact, according to iGaming Ontario (iGO), Ontario players now wager more on casino games than any sports-related betting.
How are Ontario online casinos regulated?
Every licensed online casino in Ontario is managed by iGaming Ontario and listed on their website. Each casino must register with the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario to receive a licence. The Commission was set up in February 1998 and regulates all forms of local and online gambling in Ontario. AGCO set up iGO in July 2021 as a subsidiary, specifically to oversee online gambling.
The two organizations set the requirements all casinos must meet. These include legal benchmarks for fair games and promotions, player data security, financial best practice, advertising rules, and responsible gambling.
Is Daily Fantasy Sports legal in Ontario?
Yes, it is, but all players in the pool must be located in Ontario. This means the market is small and Ontario players cannot access the large prize pots open to players from around the globe. As such, operators such as DraftKings and FanDuel do not offer DFS in Ontario. There have been rumours that this may change in the future, so we'll keep this page up to date.
How can I sign up with an Ontario casino?
You'll need to be aged 19 or above and present certain documentation to sign up with an Ontario casino online. Here's what's required to start playing for real money at any gambling site in Ontario:
What is the Ontario gambling age?
You must be at least 19 years old to be able to place a bet or wager in any local casino in Ontario. The same age restriction applies to those who wish to gamble at any Ontario online casino sites.
Do you need to be in Ontario to play?
Yes, you must be physically located within Ontario's borders to play at the regulated Ontario online casinos. If you are outside the province your account will be restricted. A casino is within its rights to refuse payout on any bets placed outside Ontario.
What proof of identity do you need to provide?
To join an online casino in Ontario, you will also be asked for proof of identity. This can be your Ontario driver's licence, a current passport, or a Canadian Citizenship Card. The Ontario Photo Card may also be accepted for Ontarians who do not have any of the above.
Do you pay tax on casino winnings in Ontario?
No, you normally won't pay tax on casino winnings. Under the Canadian government's Income Tax Act, money earned by winning on any form of gambling is not liable for taxation. The only exception is if you're a professional gambler who makes the majority of your income from wagering.
Start by looking for the iGO logo, usually at the top or bottom of your screen. This is the clearest sign a casino is regulated and holds an AGCO licence. In addition, you can find a full list of regulated Ontario online casinos at the official iGaming Ontario site.

- Sustained commitment to responsible gambling: As noted above, the Ontario government will invest $9m in responsible gambling as part of a three-year plan. In addition, the iGO is still searching for a centralized self-exclusion solution. This will allow you to self-exclude from all Ontario iGaming operators with ease.
- More casinos and software providers: As the AGCO renews licences for the likes of BetMGM and PlayOJO, new sites like Tooniebet.com are set to launch in the province. With more operators, we can expect software providers like Soft2Bet to follow suit too.
Yes, it's very likely, and casinos can currently apply to be legally regulated. Casinos will require sign-off from both iGaming Ontario (iGO) and the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO). This takes around 90 days. You can also bookmark our new Ontario casinos page for the latest launches.

Which online casino games are available in Ontario?
You'll find a huge choice of casino games at every online casino Ontario has to offer. We've highlighted some of the most played and wagered games in Ontario below:
Slot games
Online slots are almost always the most popular and common game at casinos online. Some of the most played online slots in Ontario, as tracked by PlayOJO and PowerPlay, are Big Bass Bonanza and Golden Macaque. The software behind these and other top Ontario slots titles includes Playtech, E-LITE, and Pragmatic Play.
Big Bass Bonanza is a medium volatility game with an above average RTP of 96.71%. This gives you a better chance of a payout with less risky game results. Golden Macaque has a similar RTP of 96.73% but with higher volatility. It's popular with players willing to bet on riskier results for a bigger gain. There's a maximum win of 5,699x your stake.
Editor's tip: You'll often see a slot's RTP and volatility noted in the casino lobby. While a higher RTP is generally always better (the casino takes less of a cut from winnings), volatility depends on the kind of bets you make. Low volatility means frequent and smaller win amounts, and high violatively means less frequent but larger wins.
?? House edge: From 2% to 6%
Blackjack
A low house edge makes online casino blackjack popular with players. In Ontario, Playtech's Premium Blackjack is one of the most played variants. It offers a higher chance of winning by limiting the decks to four and controlling some of the dealer's choices. You also have more options like doubling down on bets and splitting hands. This pushes the RTP up to a theoretical 99.67%.
All Bets Blackjack is another top title from Playtech. It attracts more players as it's available in both standard and live versions. Payouts are also higher on the game, and an above average six side bets are available. Just be mindful that playing through basic strategy without the side bets offers the best house edge - 99.58%
?? House edge: From 1.5%
Roulette
Ontario's most popular online casino roulette games are Mega Fire Blaze and Quantum Roulette by Playtech. Mega Fire Blaze Roulette attracts more fans as it has both standard and live casino play. With a European roulette RTP of 97.31%, it has the edge with a bonus round payout of 10,000x your bet if the ball lands on a Fire Number. This is way above the 500x of other games.
Quantum Roulette is popular with players who like a little more unpredictability in return for bigger wins. The gameplay matches European roulette, but five numbers are given multipliers from 50x to 500x. If the ball lands on one of these, any winning bets are multiplied. Just note that any winning straight-up bets have reduced payouts to fund the multipliers.
?? House edge: From 1.5%
Video poker
Playtech's Jacks or Better is the most played online Video poker game in Ontario. As one of the best known variants, it's also attractive to players for a high 99.54% payout rate. You can also double or half double wins on your game if you're willing to risk a winning hand. Overall, you can win up to 4,000x your stake playing the game, so a bet of $2.00 would mean an $8,000 win.
Deuces Wild Multi-Hand also receives the most bets in Ontario casinos. Playtech's multi hand function attracts players for the potentially larger wins. Playing five hands with each bet means any win is credited to each hand. Unusually, this feature is offered at the same payout rate as a single hand game, so there's no loss of winning funds.
?? House edge: From 0.5% to 5%
Online poker
Ontario is unique in Canada in offering regulated online poker rooms, which means it's the only province where you can find legal tournaments with fellow Ontarians.
Texas Hold'em is the most popular variant as the simplest to learn. The faster pace also makes it the most visible game at online poker rooms and in televised tournaments. Because of this, it's far easier to find Hold'em games if you like to join Sit & Go and other tournaments.
Omaha Hi is the next common variant in Ontario online poker. Players can enjoy a similar game to Hold'em that's fast played and quick to pick up. It has the advantage that you have more choice in the hand you play - as you receive four cards and discard two before laying.
?? House edge: From 1.5%
Live casino games
Ontario casinos' live dealer games offer a virtual experience of playing in person downtown in Niagara Falls or Windsor. You can expect to see live versions of roulette, blackjack, poker, and baccarat, as well as gameshows. The most popular live casino games in Ontario are currently the live versions of Premier Blackjack and Quantum Roulette detailed above.
Other top titles include Unlimited Blackjack and Live American Roulette, both from Playtech. Live Unlimited Blackjack has no cap on the number of 'seats' at the table, so you never have to wait to join a game. Unique game bets include instant wins on Dealer's Pair or Player Pair, and 21+3 side bets (where you bet that the player hand plus the dealer's card will add up to a poker hand).
?? House edge: Depends on the game
Top casino apps to use in Ontario

Casino.org editor's insight
"It's important to always check in with your emotions when gambling online. As Ontario doesn't yet have a self-exclusion tool, I always try to consider how long I've been playing for and how much money I've spent. I'll always take a break if I'm feeling stressed too. Remember, Ontario online casinos aren't going anywhere, they'll be there when you're ready to come back."
